Just like Royal Ruby, Anchor Hocking used their beautiful Forest Green color on many patterns, allowing us to mix and match and enjoy dinnerware, drinkware and accessory pieces galore.
You’ll find many pieces of Hocking’s Sandwich pattern in Forest Green. Hocking made Sandwich during the depression in crystal and some red, amber and other pieces. The pattern was so successful that Hocking re-released it several times during the last 60 years, including a large set in Forest Green in the 1950s-60s.
Some pieces of Forest Green Sandwich are ubiquitous, probably because they were given away as premiums in oatmeal boxes. The Michigan Depression Glass Society published a photo recently on Facebook that shows the glass and the original box. Fun!
Charm is another Forest Green pattern that’s fun to collect. The pieces are square with rounded corners, and you can find Royal Ruby, a medium translucent blue called Azur-ite and Jade-ite too. Charm isn’t a big pattern, made up of basic dinnerware and a few serving pieces like the platter, creamer, sugar and serving bowl. I’ve carried it several times over the years and it always finds a receptive home.
I especially enjoy the many Forest Green vases. Hocking served the florist trade for years and most of their vases are easy to use with flowers.
Like Royal Ruby, you can find so many tumblers and pitchers, even a few goblets. This set has a rounded base and Hocking made this same shape in many sizes.
The dark green color is easy to use – it goes well with most other colors and doesn’t demand attention the way Royal Ruby does – and it’s great at Christmas time and during the spring and summer too.
