Crystal, Decagon and a Nifty Clock – Antiquing Together in Downtown Kalamazoo

May 3, 2013 by Kathy 4 Comments

I love to go antiquing! My favorite antiquing buddy won’t be visiting this summer but my good friend Loren will go with me to a few flea markets. We’ll have fun.

Dave and I found lots of fun things at the mall in downtown Kalamazoo. Dave likes to look at books and is usually ready to leave right when I’m leaving the first booth. Ah well, he’s a good husband and settles down to peruse the cookbooks while I browse.

Crystal and Other Clear Glass

We found some interesting crystal. These goblets had a sign that they were from Avon. Back in the 1970s and 1980s Fostoria made several crystal items for Avon, especially hostess gifts. These are far too recent to be Fostoria.

I don’t know what these lovely yellow etched stems are. I had hoped the photo show the design better, but it’s not good enough to let me see what it it.  The same stems were here last summer when Deidra and I came which is sad. Glass this pretty needs a home.

Do you recognize this? It’s Kings Crown with the cranberry stain. Both Indiana and Tiffin made this pattern with cranberry, and I think this is Tiffin because the way the sherbets curve in then flare out on the top. I’m not thrilled with this pattern but some people love it.

This next one isn’t really crystal but you probably have seen it around. Lots of people have vases or tumblers or glass canisters in this pattern. The canisters are super containers for home made Christmas cookies or treats and it’s one of those durable designs that lasts. This is Wexford from Anchor Hocking, a heavy pressed pattern they made from 1967 to 1999. Sometimes you’ll see it listed on eBay as cut crystal or depression glass, but it’s neither.

Cambridge Decagon Blue Bowl

I like Cambridge glass and was glad to see this little Decagon Bluebell blue bowl with two handles. Don’t you think Bluebell is a pretty name for a glass color?

A Nifty Clock

I actually need a nice clock (or so I tell myself) and this one is appealing. The tag says it is over 100 years old and works. I’ve seen this one a couple times at the mall but pass it by. The first time Deidra and I went they had a different clock that caught my heart and if I’m going to get an old clock that is the one I want. Do you do that too? Find something just perfect and then other things just don’t quite seem right?

Previous Posts in the Series

Did I mention that Dave and I were here for a while?  This antique mall is clean and most booths are laid out so they are easy to shop, plus they have some interesting things and a lot of glass.  I got enough pictures for several posts that you can read here:
