No, this isn’t a bad romance novel or a blog about country western music. It’s about one of the neatest pieces of glass we just listed in our store, the oval pickle dish in Fostoria’s Romance etched crystal.
I like all the Romance etch glass we have. I like the pretty flowers and ribbons and bows and the wonderful shapes. There’s something special about this pickle dish. It’s such a utilitarian object – a small shallow bowl to hold pickles or cranberries or applesauce – and it’s made special by Fostoria’s artisan glass workers careful hand work. You won’t find anything like this in contemporary glass or china or plastic.
It’s important to have special things that help give meals or days a certain importance. Vintage glass, especially pieces like relish dishes or pickle trays or stemware, is a wonderful way to convey meaning and create memories.

When my grandmother moved into a senior’s home she divided her blue fostoria glass in the romance pattern amongst my mom, sister, aunt and myself. Oh I have some wonderful pieces. Somehow I ended up with a creamer, don’t know who got the sugar bowl. I remember eating homemade apple pie and ice cream from the plates. What a pretty table it was. I love visiting your blog to see if you have any blue. Thanks for sharing.
