Tiffin Glass Classic Etched Dancer Pink Plate

Tiffin Glass Classic Etched Dancer Pink Plate

Thank you for joining me this week for Pink Saturday and thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for being our gracious hostess.

This week’s Pink Saturday we’re back to elegant glass, this time from Tiffin Glass.  Tiffin was part of the US Glass group and stayed in business into the late 1980s, later than almost all its competitiors.

This gorgeous plate is Tiffin’s Classic etch.  The pattern name is Classic and that’s a good description too.  The ovals feature a scarf draped dancer with two birds and you can see the swags that connect each dancer cartouche.

I showed the matching tumbler a couple weeks ago and the pitcher in a the Valentine’s Day Tablescape Thursday post.  At one time we had goblets, tumblers and more pieces and now are down to the plates, juice tumblers and pitchers.

So why do I like this so much?  It’s a fun pattern.  It is much prettier in person than in the photo as the glass sparkles and the dancers are easy to see and enjoy and seem to float across the plate.  The etch is deep and I feel a connection with the people who made this so many years ago.

Tiffin Classic is hard to find in pink, a little more common in crystal.  I bought my set from a couple that inherited it and weren’t interested in holding onto it.  If you check on eBay you’ll see what I mean by scarce.  Besides my listings there are few pieces at any time.

Dancers were popular motifs in the 1920s and 30s.  We have all sorts of etched patterns with nymphs, dancers, goddesses and ladies.  Tiffin Classic is one of the prettiest and certainly one you will enjoy.

Shopping information:  Tiffin Classic glass is available at Catladykate’s Vintage Elegant Depression Glass on eBay and at Cat Lady Kate’s Elegant and Depression Glass at www.CatladykatesGlass.com.
