Princess Pink Depression Glass Sherbet

Princess Pink Depression Glass Sherbet

Thank you to Beverly from How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.  What a perfect color for cheerful thoughts of spring.

Up today is our Princess.  This is pink depression glass from Hocking, made about 1931 to 1935 when the country was deep in the Great Depression.  Pink glassware – and blue, amber, green and amethyst – was given away as premiums or offered with coupons.  It was a good way for the thrifty housewife to get something beautiful for her family while saving money.

Today we can tell the pieces in patterns that were not popular premiums and those that ladies needed to send in hard-to-find cash to get.  Those are the pieces that are more expensive or harder to find.  Sherbets are fairly common in most depression glass patterns but not so readily available in pink Princess.

Sherbets are fun pieces.  You can use them for a fruit cup, to serve applesauce, yogurt or cottage cheese, fill them with berries, custard and cream, use them for cake with lemon sauce and even use them for sherbet.

Pink isn’t just for Saturday.  And pink depression glass is a fun way to enjoy pink, beautiful glass, and a link to our history.

We have a good selection of pink Princess in our store Cat Lady Kate’s Elegant and Depression Glass and offer coupons to our blog and newsletter subscribers.  Just use coupon news when you check out.

Depression Glass, especially pink depression glass is so feminine and romantic. Sometimes delicate and lacy, it is perfect for this Pink Valentine’s Saturday. I can just imagine how thrilled women during the depression were to have something so fancy and pretty.
Thanks for the very informative post. Happy 1st Pink Saturday.

Hi Kathy and welcome to Pink Saturday. I loved your sherbert dish..I have 2 depression sherbert dishes and I will have to show them soon. I’ve no clue what the pattern is, amybe you can see well enough to tell me the pattern name. They were given to me a few years ago by a very elderly lady..and I treasure them because I cared so much for her. Happy Pink Saturday, and have a wonderful weekend.

Oh, how pretty! One of my friends collects the pink and the green, and they set the most beautiful Easter tables. She had a display case made with open shelves, and the light would just beam through her collection… so pretty! Her sister collected the amber glass, and we used to shop, shop, shop for it! :-)

Glad you joined us for Pink Saturday. Hope yours is happy!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Your pink depression glass is wonderful, Kathy. I do love Depression glass. So far, I’m partial to the Vaseline glass, the weird green color. But, I’d also love the lavender, amber, pink…..pretty much any of it. Happy Pink Saturday~
