Today we’re showing one simple table set with a few pieces of cobalt blue and amethyst purple depression glass. All the patterns shown are from Hazel Atlas glass, made in the late 1930s.

Moderntone and Newport Depression Glass

The plates, cups and sherbets are Moderntone and the creamer and sugar are Newport. Can you see how similar these patterns are? Both are simple with geometric molded shapes.

Moderntone has lovely concentric rings with clear plain centers. Newport has scallops molded on the side and pretty little petal shaped feet.

My little kitty planter came from an antiquing trip with my daughter this summer. I love little animal planters, vintage ones from the 1950s or so. They are so cute! When we moved I put a bookcase down in my glass room and set all my little planters and figurines out to keep me company.

We carry Moderntone and Newport depression glass in our store Catladykates Vintage Elegant Depression Glass.

I love love love the look of vintage table cloths but until recently the only ones I had were embroidered bridge cloths from my Mom and a very stained Christmas topper. I wanted something with more colors in it to show off my depression glass and went out special to find just the right table cloth.

Guess what? We found several! First Deidra and I went antiquing to Timberland Antique Mall and found a booth where the owner had seriously marked down her linen. Then Dave and I found another one at an estate sale. Now we have plenty of cloths!

I want to show you the difference the cloth background can make.

This first table cloth is very pretty with blue morning glory flowers and green leaves. I think it might have been hand stenciled. Here it is with our Georgian Lovebirds green depression glass.

Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

It looks great except one small problem: wrinkles. Wrinkles look bad in person and horrible in photos!

Tablecloth Close Up with Moderntone Blue Depression Glass

This cloth is so soft that it wrinkles like crazy. This shot is AFTER I ironed it!

Morning Glory Tablecloth

Let’s look at a cloth that’s more wrinkle resistant. The style is not quite as vintage – I miss those flowers! – but it has excellent colors to show off colored glassware. The background is white and light blue with a medium blue and green window pane plaid and a thread of pink running through. This one looks wonderful with blue or green glass.

You just saw Georgian green and cobalt blue Moderntone glass peeking over the edge on the Morning Glory cloth. Here is the same glass on the blue plaid table cloth.

Moderntone Blue and Georgian Green Depression Glass on Blue Plaid Cloth

I tried it with pink Sharon too. What do you think?

Sharon Cabbage Rose Pink Depression Glass on Blue Plaid Cloth

Here is the same Sharon pink depression glass with my Mom’s embroidered cloth. It looks completely different!

Sharon Pink Depression Glass on Mom's Table Cloth

Do you have a favorite table cloth you enjoy using? Drop a comment and tell!

I’ve a few more cloths to show you next time!

We carry Moderntone, Georgian and Sharon depression glass in our store Catladykates Vintage Elegant Depression Glass.

Here’s your chance to tell me what you like. I know the pink depression glass tables we’ve shown have been favorites – but which one do you like the best?

I was going through my old posts and realized we’ve shown tables with Sharon, Princess, Mayfair, Floral, Doric, Windsor, American Sweetheart and Dogwood depression glass – and with combinations! Whew! That’s a lot of pink! This post has my first four pink tables – I’ll show the rest another week.

So dear readers, this one is for you. Just leave a comment to vote on your choice.

First up is Dogwood from MacBeth Evans glass. Dogwood is one of my favorites with its big single flowers and thin glass. (I like flowers.) It’s nicknamed Apple Blossom.

Dogwood Pink Depression Glass Table

Here’s the original post: Romantic Flower Blossoms in Pink – Dogwood Tablescape Thursday

Next one is Petalware mixed with depression era stemware with a nice flower cutting. My sister gave me the bird since she knows I enjoy vintage planters, especially birds. (I like birds and flowers.)

Petalware Pink Depression Glass and Flower Cut Depression Era Stemware

I’ll give you a hint, this next one is one of my favorites – Floral Poinsettia pink depression glass. The tablescape isn’t that fantastic but the glass! This is beautiful glass. It’s another flower pattern, big flowers and leaves all together. Dogwood looks like a brocade, distinguished and formal. Floral is exuberant and joyful. Perfect for holidays.

Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass

Here’s the post: Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass Tablescape Thursday

Last one for this post is our first rose pattern, Mayfair Open Rose from Hocking. I didn’t have enough pieces to do the whole table in Mayfair so the cups and saucers are Sharon. They look good together, don’t you think? Some of the tables from this summer mix and match patterns and colors – it’s a fun way to stretch your depression glass. You’ll see more combination tables in a week or two.

Mayfair Open Rose and Sharon Pink Depression Glass Table

Here’s the blog post for this table: Roses Everywhere in the Depression- Mayfair Open Rose Pink Glass

We’ve evolved from a full table of all one pattern with Dogwood and Floral pink depression glass to tables with sparkling crystal accents with Petalware and combining glass patterns with Mayfair and Sharon.

I hope you leave me a comment to say your choice!

It’s been almost two months since I posted a tablescape with Susan from Between Naps on the Porch. We moved; most of my stuff is unpacked; I can actually see the floor and find my glass and have time to think! I missed doing these with you.

This week’s table is an experiment combining pink and blue depression glass. I enjoy trying different combinations since many of you have only a few pieces. It’s more fun to use several patterns. Here we go with Sharon Cabbage Rose in pink and our trusty Moderntone in cobalt blue.

Moderntone Cobalt Blue and Sharon Cabbage Rose Pink Depression Glass

What do you think? I showed Moderntone with green Georgian Lovebirds here and with other blue depression glass patterns here. It’s a fun pattern that plays nicely with others.

Here’s another view, this time with the larger Sharon serving bowls behind the simple blue place setting.

Moderntone Cobalt Blue and Sharon Cabbage Rose Pink Depression Glass

One problem I had making this table is the limited number of Sharon and Moderntone pieces we have. I use glass from our store inventory and these two popular patterns have sold well! I figure that puts me in the same position many of you have, where you have just a few pieces and need to use them to best effect. I hope that you get good ideas from my tables.

This vintage tablecloth came from an antique mall. It’s white with blue, a little green and some pink. It does a good job blending the different colors. I enjoy nice cheerful vintage cloths all full of flowers and fruit but they don’t work well when you want to photograph the result! This more refined cloth does a super job and is the style you might want to consider with your vintage glass.

One last picture, this time showing that glorious blue glass. Did you know blue is the perennial favorite color and the overwhelming favorite for men? Moderntone blue sure catches the eye, even if blue isn’t your favorite. It helps contrast the soft pink Sharon in this combination.

Moderntone Cobalt Blue Depression Glass with Sharon Pink

We have Sharon Cabbage Rose in our store here and Moderntone cobalt blue depression glass here.

You may have noticed I’ve posted less the last few weeks. That’s because Dave and I are moving and there is a lot to pack and organize. Dave is an artist and if you have a vision of a rather unkempt work area, that’s pretty accurate. He’s spending his time cleaning his studio (and discovering all sorts of stuff hiding underneath other stuff) and I’m spending my time packing. (My downfall is books. There is a reason they gave me a Nook for my birthday!)

I’ll get back to a regular blog schedule in a few weeks when I need a break from UNpacking. Until then, please forgive a few shorter posts here and there.

One of my favorite tablescapes is this one with Lorain green depression glass on a plain white tablecloth.

Lorain Basket Etched Green Depression Glass

I like Lorain because the green is that perfect shade that is clean, sophisticated and fresh. And because the square plates with round scalloped corners are so perfect. And let’s not forget the lovely basket and scroll etch.

Basket etches were super popular in the late 1920s. I’m not aware of any patterns from the 1950s or so that used baskets in their motifs, but in the late 20s and early depression years we had Adam and Elinor from Tiffin, Dutchess from Heisey, and etched patterns from Morgantown, Bryce and Cambridge. Indiana Glass used that popularity to fashion this mass produced depression glass pattern, Lorain.

You can find Lorain in this gorgeous green, a soft, pretty topaz yellow and some clear pieces. Indiana used the basket motif on milk glass for florists in the 1950s so don’t be surprised if you find some rather ugly pieces that look like big sherbets.

One downside of Indiana Glass: Their depression glass has raised seams and some rough edges. Even pieces with no damage will feel a little rough in places just because of the bits of extra glass left on the seam lines and rims. Some people see this as part of the charm of depression glass but to others it’s a reminder that this was basically not very good glass when it was made.

If you like Lorain we have pieces in our store here.

We have a linky party every Thursday evening for Fancy Fun Fridays. The theme is anything that you enjoy that’s just a bit out of the ordinary.

Do your roses race to get one last flush of blossoms in before frosts? Mine do. My roses lose the battle some years but they never look so alive as they do when that last set of blossoms bursts out. I love roses and this glass pattern captures that look perfectly. It is Sharon pink depression glass, also called Cabbage Rose.

Sharon rose sprays always remind me of fall, even with the pretty summer pink color. Every year our roses race to bloom one last time before the first frost and those big generous – alive – flowers look like Sharon.

Sharon Cabbage Rose Pink Depression Glass

Sharon Cabbage Rose depression glass makes a pretty table. It mixes and matches too, and next week I’ll show how great it looks combined with blue Moderntone depression glass.

Sharon is another pattern that I like more each time I see it. The design is asymmetric, about the only pattern I know that is. The sides of cups and the rims on plates have panels with big flower bouquets and the centers are plain except for sprays of wide open roses.

Sharon Cabbage Rose Pink Depression Glass

You’re seeing the paltry few Sharon pieces we have left in inventory. The bigger plate is the Sharon salad or lunch plate, which is actually scarce, and the smaller one is the 6 inch sherbet plate. They look bigger right up close but that bowl is only 5 inches wide. My mom called her bowls that size sauce dishes but glass people call them fruit bowls or berry bowls.

I buy Sharon for our store inventory every time I can since it’s one of my best sellers. I thought you’d like to see how it looks in a tablescape while we still have a few pieces!

Dave and I are moving next month and I’d really like to move fewer boxes of glass. If you are considering purchasing depression glass, like this pretty Sharon, or Cambridge or Fostoria elegant glass why not take a look at our store. We’re offering a pre-move coupon set for savings up to 20%. It’s easy. Just pick what you want and use the coupon code when you check out.
Coupon Code All10 Save 10% on any order
Coupon Code All15 Save 15% off your $50 order
Coupon Code FB25 Save 20% off your $100 order.
And orders over $100 still qualify for free shipping. It’s a win-win. You get to save some money and I get to move less glass!

Last week I showed you a tablescape that had me running to the chaise lounge on the deck, blue depression glass with just a bit of green mixed in on a vintage cloth. I played around some more with blue and green and have another table that’s perfect for our long slow September days.

Moderntone Blue on Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

Do you like green and blue together? The colors look so fresh together and the vintage plaid cloth ties them together. This is one of my favorite color combinations. It reminds me of delphiniums in the garden and the last lazy days of summer.

Moderntone Blue on Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

Do you recognize the blue dishes from last week? I had a lot of fun playing around with different combinations. The blue sherbets and cups are Moderntone from Hazel Atlas. Moderntone is a good pattern if you like blue (and who doesn’t). It’s easy to find the standard pieces – plates, cups, sherbets – the cobalt blue color is great and the price is reasonable.

Moderntone Blue on Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

Hazel Atlas didn’t make tumblers that they called Moderntone, but they made other blue glasses that go so well that you won’t miss having the identical pattern. The tumbler and the tall creamer you can see peeking out in the next picture are Aurora. Hazel Atlas made Aurora about the same time as they did Moderntone but it’s a much smaller pattern. You can find Aurora too, but it’s a little more expensive than Moderntone and you won’t find any lunch or dinner plates. The saucer is Royal Lace, also by Hazel Atlas.

Moderntone Blue on Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

The green plates are Georgian Lovebirds, made by Federal Glass during the first half of the depression. Georgian has baskets of flowers and pairs of birds, very pretty. It’s quite a contrast in style to the plainer Moderntone. I like the way the patterns look together.

I’d like to try this combination again with some crystal stemware. This table has four depression glass patterns and I think the light colored tablecloth helps bring everything together and soften the contrast. Clear crystal would do the same thing. Maybe. Sometimes ideas sound good and then don’t work out at all. I need to check it out!

If you are considering buying vintage glass to start building memories this Christmas then be sure to check out our moving sale. It’s a win-win. You get considerable savings and we are moving and I’d like to move less (i.e., sell it). Use coupon FB25 and get 20% off your $100 order or All15 for 15% off your $50 order or All10 for 10% off any order.

If you enjoy these blog parties the please plan to join me Thursday evenings for Fancy Fun Fridays. I’ll have the link out for you to add your blog posts by 8 pm Michigan time. Pick out something fancy and fun and come join us.

Welcome to this week’s Tablescape Thursday with blue depression glass on a vintage tablecloth.

Doesn’t this make you feel like going outside and sitting in the rocker on the porch?

Moderntone Aurora Royal Lace Blue Depression Glass

The tumblers and the big creamer are Aurora, pretty design of vertical panels. The small plates I’m using as saucers are Royal Lace and the other blue pieces are Moderntone.

Did you notice the green center handled server peeking out behind the tumbler? That’s Fostoria Vernon, a lovely, lovely pattern.

Moderntone Aurora Royal Lace Cobalt Blue Depression Glass

All the blue glass is from the same company, Hazel Atlas. They made more blue depression glass than any of the other main companies and these three are among their top cobalt blue patterns. Moderntone is the easiest to find and Royal Lace is the most scarce. I have a soft spot for Aurora though. I’m not sure why I like it, something about the simple pattern works so well in the blue.

This picture shows the tall Aurora creamer and tumbler.

Moderntone, Aurora, Royal Lace Blue Depression Glass

Here’s another view that shows the Aurora tumbler with the Moderntone sherbet. How do you like how Aurora goes with the Moderntone? The tumbler looks like it’s part of the same pattern.

Moderntone and Aurora Blue Depression Glass

Here you can see all three patterns close up.

Moderntone, Royal Lace and Aurora Blue Depression Glass

How do you like this vintage tablecloth? It’s soft cloth and I think the morning glory and hummingbird design was stenciled at home. Here’s a close up – please ignore the wrinkles. I love the morning glories and I love the stencils.

Moderntone Blue Depression Glass and Vintage Tablecloth

I had a lot of fun this weekend playing mix and match with depression glass and the vintage tablecloths I got antiquing with Deidra. One in this blog is to show you how how to use your glass to best effect whether you have many pieces or just a few.

Georgian Lovebirds is one of my favorite green patterns and we’ve shown it all by itself in past blog posts here and here. Georgian is not terribly expensive but the tumblers and some serving pieces are pricey. I wanted to see how we could combine a few pieces of less-expensive green depression glass with Georgian and still have a fun table. I hope you enjoy this one!

Georgian Lovebirds, Thumbprint Federal Green Depression Glass

This place setting uses the Georgian green lunch plate, small sherbet plate, little bowl and cup and saucer. These are affordable and not too hard to find. The tumblers are green Thumbprint and the sherbet is unnamed. Federal Glass made all these pieces and the colors match very well.

Georgian Lovebirds with Thumbprint Tumbler and Green Depression Glass Sherbet

If you only have a few pieces of depression glass, but you want to use your glass and enjoy it, you can combine it with other vintage glass or with your regular dinnerware. These vintage sherbets are easy to find at antique stores or online and they are inexpensive. Our set of four is under $20. Add a few of these and make your table special.

Thumbprints Tumbler, Federal Sherbet, Georgian Lovebirds Green Depression Glass

The Thumbprint green tumblers are $18 each compared to $100 for Georgian Lovebirds. They look great with the Georgian dishes and give that lovely vintage look to your table.

I took one more picture, this one has the Georgian sherbet. You can see it above the place setting. I like how it looks too. Which do you like better? The Georgian sherbet or the paneled one?

Georgian Lovebirds Depression Glass with Thumbprints Tumbler

If this is you, you love depression glass but maybe you don’t have room for more or you are saving up for a few holiday purchases, then consider extending your pattern with vintage glass from less popular patterns. You can find tumblers in pink or green that will look great with almost any pattern. If you’re just starting with glass and aren’t sure which pattern you like best, consider trying a piece or two of multiple patterns. Most depression glass blends well. It’s friendly stuff that plays well with others!

I do have one tidbit for you. I’ve got a sale running on our glass for you. Use coupon FB25 and get 20% off your $100 order or All10 for 10% off your $50 order.

Here’s an all-pink table for those of you who love this color (and that is a lot of you!). I like the way the pink glass pulls together a table, it’s almost effortless. You don’t need a centerpiece or much else to make a table with all pink depression glass sing.

Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass Table for Two

This is one of my favorite pink depression glass patterns, Floral or Poinsettia from Jeannette. Jeannette made this in the early years of the depression in pink and a stunning green, plus a few pieces in amber, yellow, delphite opaque blue and clear.

The design is gorgeous, big poofy flowers and even bigger leaves. The flowers look like poinsettias but the leaves? I don’t think so!

Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass Table for Two

This table is unusual for depression glass because of the matching Floral tumblers. The tumblers in most patterns are pricey and I carry only a few in my store. Floral tumblers are thicker glass than some; maybe that helped keep them intact for 75 years.

Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass Table

Here is an up close picture to show off the pretty pattern. Read on for coupon codes to save 10 to 20% on glass from us.

Floral Poinsettia Pink Depression Glass 7 oz Footed Tumbler

One of the wonderful things about depression glass is you don’t have to have a full set like this to enjoy your pieces. The oval bowl or platter would be great added to your table for serving your favorite dish or consider a few plates or those pretty tumblers. Check with us in the next weeks to see a tablescape that combines this wonderful flower pattern with other pieces and learn how to create a table that expresses your unique style.
