I got these at an estate sale because they are just the neatest pieces. I love the idea of using a tumbler with a handle for lemonade in the summer – no more wet glasses slipping out of your hand.

This basket etch is especially nice. I showed Heisey Dutchess etched sherbets with basket motif a while back that was more ornate. This etch is Tiffin Adam which has a basket inside an oval surrounded by swags and scrolls. Very nice, attractive pattern.

Tiffin made Adam from 1913 to 1934, quite a long time in glass years. (Think of dog years, glass companies tended to move with the fashion so most patterns didn’t last real long.) The handled tumblers are pieces you find in some older patterns that seemed to disappear from glass lines after the depression.

In the 1980s or so the shape was reborn as Irish coffee pieces. I would not put anything hot in these Tiffin tumblers though. They are thin and may not take well to hot liquids. Use these for lemonade and enjoy a nice safe way to drink cold liquids on a hot summer day.

Tiffin Glass Eldorado Griffin Etched Crystal Footed Tumbler

I tilted the glass a bit so you could see the pattern. It’s quite like Bill’s Scammell China grill plates. Here’s another view.

Tiffin Glass Eldorado Griffin Etched Crystal Footed Tumbler

I don’t have a date for Eldorado but it likely came from the same late 1920s as did the Scammel China and Central Glass’ Harding etched crystal. Griffins were common motifs in ancient Persia and Kurdistan and apparently popular during the Art Deco period in America too.

Griffins combine the head of a lion with the body and wings of an eagle. They symbolize courage, strength and boldness. If you need something to cheer you up and give you the courage to follow your dreams, then consider this fine griffin etched glass.

Some of you still have summer but fall is in the air here in mid-Michigan. Nights are cold and the tree tips are turning. Let’s enjoy a last gasp of summer with fuchsia flowers dancing on crystal.

Tiffin Glass Fucshia Etched Crystal Cocktail Stem

Tiffin’s Fuchsia etch is one of the most detailed flower patterns – you can tell right away this is a fuchsia by the long curved stamens and bell-shaped flowers. This is no stylized flower cutting with generic petals and leaves!

Tiffin etched Fuchsia on several stem shapes, so if you decide you want this pattern you’ll want to notice the shape of the bowl and the design on the stems. This cocktail shown here is the 15083 blank which appears to be the easiest to find. It’s a good choice if you like this etch.

Fostoria made a fuchsia etch that is quite different, more stylized fuchsia flower sprays and connected with swags of leaves. Tiffin’s looks more like the fuchsia plant. Both are pretty and you could blend them, although you’ll find Tiffin’s Fuchsia a little easier to find that Fostoria’s etched glass.

Come and enjoy memories of summer fun and keep yourself cheerful this winter with fuchsia bedecked crystal!

Tiffin Glass survived until 1980, outlasting so many of the American glass houses. They operated as Factory R, a unit of the U.S. Glass company. Tiffin was known especially for their beautiful stemware. The piece shown here is a good example.

This is cut crystal, not etched, and the name is a pun. You can just see the bow like a ribbon in the front of the bowl, thus the name June Beau. Once you stop groaning from the pun you can agree that it’s a clever name that fits the design.

What I like most about this stem is the shape. The wide section near the top of the rim is a rounded wafer studded with little beads like a collar. The blank is sometimes called Pearl Collar, most appropriate and something you won’t have a problem remembering.

I like the graceful flare of the bowl and the ribbing on the stem that makes this easy to hold. This particular stem is the liquor cocktail; it’s a little small for a sherbet and a nice size for a small after dinner drink or cocktail.

It’s fun to have a variety of stems to use for drinks. You can mix and match and not feel like everything has to match since it’s not on a formal table setting. Go ahead and have fun with Tiffin stemware.

Tiffin Glass is one of the elegant glass makers that we carry in our elegant depression glass stores. Tiffin made an incredible array of glass, from detailed cuttings to very beautiful etches, and many, many stemware patterns.

The stemware we’re showing today are cut and have intricate stems. The one pictured is June Beau, a pun because the main pattern motif is a ribbon bow. Once you stop groaning at the lame joke you can appreciate the quality of the glass and the detailed cutting and intricate stem.

This stem is one of two blanks that Tiffin made which have a ring of small beads around the top like a pearl necklace. I saw a reference to this as a pearl collar which is a good description. The other stemware line has the same stem and foot but the bowl does not have the flare. We have this second shape in a beautiful cut design like leaf boughs.

Altogether we have four cocktail stems, all holding about 4 ounces. These are good examples of vintage cut crystal stemware from Tiffin GlasTs.
