Earlier blog post I told the story of the older couple who sold me their Cameo depression glass because “their daughters didn’t want it”. The couple never used the glass so no one had memories tied up in it.
I have this glass now and will list it for sale so someone else can treasure it [...]

Let me share a sad story with you and suggest how you can avoid the same thing happening to you. This weekend I bought a set of green Cameo depression glass like the grill plate pictured.
The sellers were an 85 year old couple who were selling because “our daughters didn’t want this”. The gentleman [...]

Let’s talk about one of the painful subjects around depression glass, reproductions. Fakes, remakes, reissues, reproductions, there are many words to describe these. Although there are some legitimate re-issues, especially where the manufacture labels their glass, there are too many that are simply rip offs.
One pattern that was reissued was Madrid. Federal Glass made Madrid [...]

Jeannette’s Cherry Blossom pink depression glass is exceptionally pretty with the entrancing design of blossoms, leaves and cherries dangling from a stem. Sadly this popular pattern attracted unscrupulous reproductions in the early 1970s.
So what’s a collector to do? You want to protect yourself, but how?
You can spot most repro pieces pretty easily. I was [...]

I love center handled servers, they have everything I like so much about depression glass:
Vast array of colors and shapes
Beautiful
Unique.
Entrancing to hold and think of the people before you who held and treasured this.
Did I mention beautiful?
This ebony black one is especially different. It has 8 sides with dramatic points and the sweetest heart shaped [...]

Are you a glass seller? Do you sell the odd piece of glass or china, maybe stuff you pick up at an estate sale? Do you know what are the three most important points?

I recently bought depression glass from a new eBay seller who tried so hard to do everything right. Good communication, fast shipping, [...]

I just got out a box of older glass to list on eBay and found this unusual Laced Edge bowl in rich ruby red. (The color is deeper and richer than the photo. It’s almost decadent; think of your favorite chocolate and this is similar.) It makes me warm all over just to hold this; [...]

Once upon a time you could find real Madrid depression glass at every flea market, antique mall and thrift store. Those days are behind us. I found the cake plate and tumbler in pink Recollection reproduction glass this winter at an antique store and a few more pieces when antiquing in San Antonio a few [...]

This pretty grill plate shows off one of my favorite depression glass patterns, Cameo from Hocking Glass. Cameo has an interesting story behind it. Monongah Glass made a beautiful etched pattern Springtime, with a dancer in a frame surrounded by swags that was true elegant glass – lots of hand work, quality crystal, the works. [...]

This week I’m visiting our daughter and her family and that prompted this post. Our daughter collects Petal from Federal Glass and has an amazing collection of colors and shapes. She started this fun hobby about 10 years ago when we went to a flea market and she found an iridescent plate she loved. Since [...]
